Sauron's Horcrux

Your eyes do not deceive you. today I will present the theory that The One Ring is indeed... Sauron's Horcrux.

The first thing I would like to point out is that this topic will include spoilers for those of you who have not finished or seen The Lord Of The Rings, so turn away!

The first thing I have to touch on is, What Is A Horcrux?

"A Horcrux is an object in which a Dark wizard or witch has hidden a fragment of his or her soul for the purpose of attaining immortality." As the Harry Potter Wiki puts it.

The second thing I need to explain is how a Horcrux is made for those of you who haven't read or finished Harry Potter.

1. Kill someone

2. Have an object to endow the damaged part of your soul into

It's as easy as that!

Now, let's go over what we know about the Ring.

1. Temptation accompanied by irritation and greediness... Just like a Horcrux
2. Can't be destroyed by normal weapons... Just like a Horcrux
3. Sauron can't be destroyed while the Ring is still around... Just like a Horcrux
4. Can only be destroyed where it was created. Mt. Doom... While this is loosely connected to a Horcrux, I will touch on that later.
There are probably more things I am forgetting, but those are the main points I will touch on.

Now, this is where the really good stuff starts. We all know Sauron has undoubtably commited murder, he is, after all, bent on ruling Middle Earth. And he would definately use something like a Horcrux to achieve immortality. So he has the motives and the resources to do so.
So, how could Sauron create a Horcrux if he is not a wizard?
Two words, Mt. Doom. In order for this dark lord to create a single ring of ultimate power he would need some kind of enchantment on Mt. Doom. Thus is why it can only be destroyed there. Plus, at the beginning of The Fellowship Of The Ring we clearly see the Ring levitating out of the fires of Mt. Doom!

As we have seen in Harry Potter, extended time close to a Horcrux leads to increased levels of irritation. Such as the locket with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Smegul suffered this long term effect in a dramatic way. Developing a second conscience to deal with This effect. As we see throughout the trilogy, Frodo makes noticable changes in his behavior due to the inevitable pull of the Ring. For example, Frodo wouldn't have even considered abandoning Sam at the beginning of their journey. But you see how Gollum so easily pursuades Frodo to tell Sam to go home.

In order to destroy a Horcrux you must damage it beyond physical and magical repair. Whe Gimli hits the Ring with his axe it could have been both magically and physically repaired so the Ring deflects this attack and damages Gimli's axe. But if thrown into Mt. Doom, it would be completely and utterly destroyed, and probably melted back down to just molten gold.

"A Horcrux is the word used for an object in which a person has concealed part of their soul... Well, you split your soul, you see, and hide part of it in an object outside the body. Then, even if one's body is attacked or destroyed, one cannot die, for part of the soul remains earthbound and undamaged."

When Sauron's physical form was destroyed, his soul was not destroyed because the Ring  was still intact. As the Harry Potter Wiki stated above, he could have remained earthbound. And, like Voldemort with Quirrel, could have been bound to someone or something, like The Mouth Of Sauron or The Eye Of Sauron on top of the tower. But once the ring was destroyed, he had nothing anchoring him to the living world, so he perished.

The VFD

Sorry it took so long to finally post something. It may take us a while to get in the swing of things.

Last time I mentioned the VFD from a Series of Unfortunate Events. This secret organization is responsible for putting out fires, both literally and figuratively. This may contain spoilers for anyone who has not read the series or watched the show on Netflix, which by the way was AWESOME. If you would like to be surprised by the series or the show, then Look Away.

First of all, most of my info is coming from the wiki page, which I linked in my last post, the book series/show, and Lemony Snicket "The Unauthorized Autobiography".

Now the VFD stands for Volunteer Fire Department, though not many people know what that entails, because their activities are always shrouded by codes and disguises. No one knows when it started, when it will end, or much of what happened in the middle. It is currently unknown if the organization still exists, or ever did exist.

If you are fortunate, or unfortunate for that matter, enough to be noticed by an agent, and picked out for recruitment, there are a couple of ways this will happen. The first is that you will hear a noise outside. This noise could sound like any number of things, from the howling of a wolf to the turning of a page. This sound will occur in the middle of the night, in the middle of the morning, or, in very rare cases, late in the afternoon. Should you hear this sound, immediately ask your parents, roommate, children, or anyone else that happens to be nearby, "What was that noise?". If they reply, "Nothing", and you reply with, "If there is nothing out there, then what was that noise?", the agents will be listening and know it is safe to act. That night you will be dragged, with parental permission of course, by the ankle into a waiting car.

Recruitment has also been known to be done through taxi drivers showing pictures of infants.

After recruitment, you will be trained thoroughly and rigorously in the codes and disguises of the organization. Though it is not my place to disclose the codes and disguises of a secret organization, a sample of said codes can be found throughout the book series, show, Unauthorized Autobiography, and wiki page.
